The Bible does not mention a holiday commemorating the
time when Israel received the Torah. According to the Talmud and many
Midrashic sources, the Torah was given to the Children of Israel on
the 6th day of the Hebrew month of Sivan. On this date we recall the
Revelation at Sinai, when Moses received the Torah on behalf of the
Jewish people. In honor of the holiday when Israel received the Torah,
we turned to different people from a variety of spheres, and asked
them which verse in the Torah was particularly important for them,
and why.
